According to my opinion sports skills are acquired in a very progressive sequence. Not every child will acquire each and every skill as they have to go tremendous training. Supervised, Unstructured and exploratory activities in a safe environment are the way to go.Once children are a few years old, hints of sports skills start to develop and take shape. The preparation process for sports readiness begins. To be acquired successfully, sports skills involve a complex interaction between movement, sight and thought.Motor skills (movement) requires the right visual processing to allow the correct movement response. These skills also require appropriate brain processing and thought patterns so that the response will be meaningful and effective.
Motor skills are very important in the field of sports and one has to be strong in order to be successful in the field of sports. In cricket, these skills are been given a great amount of importance if a player wants to excel in the sport and win matches for his team. A batsmen can score ample amount of runs and can hit shots at their own will, fielder can take as many amount of catches irrespective of his position and a bowler can use varieties in his bowling if he has a strong motor skills. In Football, the goalkeeper can save goals for his team or his club and the striker can also take a judgement at the penalty area to score a goal for his team and paves way for team's contribution.
Basic skills are fundamental skills which open the door to a lifelong sport and activity Children these days need to learn Fundamental movement skills before they learn fundamental sport skills. They must be introduced to sport skills before movement skills as they often struggle to learn the sport skills and can also risk injury which may even feel them discouraged and quit the sport! Fundamental movement skills are basic movements such as throwing, kicking, running, jumping, hopping and catching. These movement skills are applied to a sport situation for example, kicking a soccer ball, running a sprint, jumping up for a basketball rebound, catching a baseball.
By mastering fundamental movement skills, children will find it easier to learn fundamental sport skills. The combination of these two types of skills forms the basis of physical literacy and opens the door to new sports and physical activities and helps build a better, more confident athlete and a person. Coaches who understand such groupings have an advantage for developing appropriate instructional and training activities. These classifications are also used in the fields of childhood development, special education, and physical therapy. These need to be developed from the grassroots level as it is a way to go for the athletes.
In India, the grassroots development training skills is not being given that much importance which is the main reason why the country is lagging behind in major sports events like Olympics and even fail to qualify for the world cup featuring Football or Basketball barring Kabaddi, Cricket and Hockey which are the three pillars of sports in India. Grass root itself is a skill if it is taken seriously by the managers and the players.
Nonetheless, Indian Leagues like ISL, PKL and HIL have pumped in huge amount of money for the development of grassroots training in India and these leagues are able to scout young players and are given an opportunity to perform in the matches to represent their country in major sporting events, which can be seen as a boost for the Indian Sport but everything has its cons, the biggest drawback is politics, corruption and doping which is the biggest barrier for the Indian Sports and has quite hindered the growth of several other non-cricketing sports.
I conclude that sports skills are the most essential for the development of sports and players. Sports Training also includes movement skills and basic skills which is to be taught before giving training to the athlete. Training and Development must be looked upon as a part of a skill as it helps to develop an overall personality of an athlete and makes a country wealthy in sports.
